‘Ludwig’ announced as 2025 International Emmy® Winner for Comedy

The hit BBC series starring David Mitchell and Anna Maxwell Martin was awarded the prize at a ceremony on 24 November in New York City.

Ludwig was recognised at the 53rd International Emmy® Awards earlier this week, winning the Comedy prize. In attendance to receive the award were Big Talk CEO and Ludwig executive producer Kenton Allen and Big Talk Drama Development Producer and Ludwig co-producer Anya Wilson. The series had been nominated in two categories: Comedy, and Best Performance by an Actor for David Mitchell.

NEW YORK, November 24, 2025 – The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences presented Emmys to television creators and performers from nine countries at the 53rd International Emmy® Awards tonight in New York City. The Gala was attended by television professionals from around the world and hosted by Live with Kelly and Mark co-hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos.

Ludwig is a Big Talk Studios in association with That Mitchell And Webb Company production for BBC One and BBC iPlayer. It was commissioned by Jon Petrie, Director of Comedy Commissioning at the BBC. The series is written and created by Mark Brotherhood. The executive producers are Kenton Allen, Mark Brotherhood, Saurabh Kakkar, David Mitchell, Kathryn O’Connor and Chris Sussman; the producer is Georgie Fallon. The directors are Robert McKillop and Jill Robertson. The BBC Commissioning Editor is Tanya Qureshi. It is produced in association with ITV Studios. Series one of the bingeworthy comedy-drama was the BBC’s biggest scripted show of 2024, and the biggest launch for a comedy since at least 2018, attracting over 9.5 million viewers (28-day figure). Ludwig is the number one season premiere in total viewership and unique viewers across BritBox North America in 2025. Global sales to date for Ludwig will see it airing in 85 international markets with more under discussion.

Filming for a second series (6x60’) is currently underway. It will be a Big Talk Studios production in association with That Mitchell And Webb Company, in co-production with BritBox and ZDF, for the BBC. It is produced in association with ITV Studios, which also handles international distribution. The series was commissioned for BBC One and BBC iPlayer by Jon Petrie, BBC Director of Comedy Commissioning. Series two is again written by Mark Brotherhood, and the directors are George Kane (episodes 1, 2 & 3) and Stella Corradi (episodes 4, 5 & 6). The executive producers are Kenton Allen and Toby Welch for Big Talk Studios, Mark Brotherhood, David Mitchell, Kathryn O’Connor, Chris Sussman; Robert Schildhouse and Stephen Nye for BritBox; and Claus Wunn and Frank Seyberth for ZDF. The producer is Georgie Fallon, with Anya Wilson serving as co-producer. The Commissioning Editor for the BBC is Tanya Qureshi.
