Big Talk Studios is one of the world’s leading scripted television production companies, led by Chief Executive Kenton Allen and Commercial Director Christina Angeloudes. It has an unparalleled reputation for producing genre-defining British comedy and tonally distinctive, character-driven international drama. Across 2024 and 2025, Big Talk cemented that reputation with an output of stellar programming culminating in nominations for Best Independent Production Company at the 2025 Broadcast Awards and Production Company of the Year at Edinburgh TV Awards 2025.

In September 2024, Ludwig launched on BBC One. Written by Mark Brotherhood, the comedy-drama series stars national treasure David Mitchell as the reclusive puzzle setter John ‘Ludwig’ Taylor, who assumes the identity of his successful twin brother, DCI James Taylor, in order to solve the mystery of his disappearance. An instant hit, Episode 1 racked up 9.5 million viewers in 28 days (with an incredible 85% audience completion rate across the series on iPlayer) making it the BBC’s biggest scripted launch in two years and its biggest comedy launch since 2018. The Sunday Times crowns it ‘the saviour of British Comedy… utterly utterly delightful’ and Deborah Ross says the show ‘will bring joy to your heart and make you glad to be alive’ in the Mail on Sunday’s five-star review. The Telegraph and The Daily Mail also gave five-star reviews and declared it ‘a comedy triumph’ and ‘a match for Morse’ respectively. Ludwig duly won Best Comedy at the 2025 Broadcast Awards, as well as picking up BAFTA, RTS, Edinburgh TV, Rockie and NTA nominations. Principal photography for its second series is currently underway.

Meanwhile Transaction, a subversive spin on the workplace comedy created by and starring Jordan Gray, launched on ITV2 and ITVX in June this year. Gray stars as Liv, a transgender egomaniac, causing havoc in the strange world of the supermarket nightshift. Hired by boss Simon (Nick Frost) to avert a PR crisis, Liv soon realises that she's un-sackable and turns the store into her personal playground. Hailed by The Guardian as ‘a refreshing rebellion against the status quo,’ Transaction found its audience immediately, racking up 600,000 viewers in its first week to become ITV2’s best performing half-hour comedy in over three years.

Brand new to UK screens is Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping, which aired on Channel 4 in September this year and sees BAFTA-winning comedy legends David Mitchell and Robert Webb reunite for an inventive, wide-ranging, and quite sweary new sketch show alongside rising stars Kiell Smith-Bynoe, Lara Ricote, Stevie Martin, and Krystal Evans. The Daily Mail and The I both gave it five stars, with the latter declaring ‘it’s everything you’d want from a sketch show in 2025.’

Renowned for both championing new talent and attracting the biggest names in UK television alike, Big Talk is currently in post-production on Can You Keep A Secret?, a new sitcom written and created by Simon Mayhew-Archer (This Country) and directed by Simon Hynd (Ghosts). The show, which follows a family after a life-changing bureaucratic error, stars Dawn French in her long-awaited return to the BBC alongside Friday Night Dinner’s Mark Heap.

Further successes from last year include The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin starring Noel Fielding, Hugh Bonneville and Asim Chaudhry which launched on Apple TV+ to critical acclaim; Stephen Merchant’s BBC / Amazon series The Outlaws, whose ‘outrageously funny’ (The Telegraph) third series hit UK screens at the end of May 2024 and has been exceptionally well received, as well as the second series of BBC Three hit comedy Peacock starring People Just Do Nothing’s Alan ‘Seapa’ Mustafa and Steve Stamp.

Other recent productions include a 90’ movie of apocalyptic alien comedy We Are Not Alone created by Ghosts co-creators Larry Rickard and Ben Willbond for UKTV channel Dave, two series of BAFTA-nominated Timewasters for ITV, the conclusion of Stefan Golaszewski’s critically lauded and BAFTA award-winning comedy Mum starring Lesley Manville for BBC Two, and two series of Back, the ‘world class’ (The Guardian) dark comedy starring David Mitchell and Robert Webb and created by Simon Blackwell for Channel 4.

Big Talk’s illustrious history spans multiple film and TV hits over almost three decades and includes BAFTA award-winning comedies Rev. and Him & Her, and the revival of the much-loved Cold Feet. Winning ‘Production Company of the Year’ in 2018, a mainstay in Broadcast’s ‘Best Places to Work in TV,’ and collecting multiple awards from BAFTA, Rose D’Or, RTS, Edinburgh TV Festival, and the Writers’ Guild among others, the company is again and again rewarded for being at the forefront of UK television. In turn, Big Talk is committed to increasing diversity and access while continuing to deliver unrivalled scripted content of all shapes and sizes for audiences around the world.
